Why the drift matters (and when to ignore it)

Pound and kilogram plates can never match exactly — 225 lb is 102.06 kg, so a kg lifter loads 102.5 kg and actually lifts about 226 lb. A drift under one percent is noise compared with day-to-day strength variation; track the local number consistently instead of re-converting every session. Drift only becomes worth managing on percentage-based progression at elite levels, or when your smallest plate pair limits how close you can get — a pair of 1.25 kg or 2.5 lb plates tightens every jump on this page.
